We are familiar with paddling north on the fox from Hiestand Park in Princeton but we had not paddled south. It made us wonder what the next put-in was and read about the goings on at Lock Road.
Fox River Wicks’ Landing Lock and Dam is very popular for fishing. There is ample parking. The canoe put-in is down the road on the left, a few hundred yards downstream from the lock and dam. The porta-potty is to the right.
There is an island that has a fishing dock, a dam, and electrified fish barrier and more. No one can paddle through there. If you approach in a boat from north or south, portage around it.
Our idea is to put-in at the landing below the dam and paddle down ((north!) to Hiestand Park in Princeton, which is about 3.5 miles, or continue on to the boat ramp at St Marie Rd about 2 miles further.
Note: The dam is to be reconstructed in 2020, and put-in might not be available for use.
