There being no public access to the Wisconsin River at Blackhawk Island any longer, we were planning to attend an orientation at Upham Woods, get their Paddle Pass (register link), then launch from their private canoe beach and paddle around Blackhawk Island; but we were advised by their staff to reschedule due to high water conditions.
Pictured above – the fence at the old access point – now closed off.
We cancelled our planned paddle around Blackhawk Island due to high water on the Wisconsin River, opting instead to put in at Princeton and paddle upstream to try a new section of the Fox River.
Upham Woods stops their youth paddling programs at 12000 cfs. Flow at WI Dells today was 26000!
